4 horses die after theft from equestrian centre
A mindless and deadly crime was committed Saturday night after thieves stole metal gates from Timbertops Equestrian Centre. This led to several horses escaping, they then drifted onto the busy A1 motorway resulting in 4 horses being hit by motorists. Busy roads like this see cars reaching speeds of up to 70mph. A collision to an animal of this size and weight at speed can be deadly, not only to the horse but can cause major accidents on the motorway. Fortunately on this occasion none of the motorists where injured but 3 horses died after the collision and another was later put down at a local vetinary centre.
Police are pleading for any information regarding these thefts, the incident occurred between 3pm Saturday and 12.15am Sunday. Anyone with any information regarding this incident are urged to call York CID, this event has not only left the owners of the Timbertops Equestrian Centre shaken but the drivers of the vehicle are understandably traumatised by this event.
