Barbury International Horse Trials
The St. James’s Place Barbury International Horse Trials on 4-6 July, near Marlborough, Wiltshire has attracted a record level of entries with 184 horses entered in its top CIC*** and 188 in its new CIC** Horse Trials class. Many of the horses that are due to compete at the Olympic Games will be taking part. With the withdrawal of Zara Phillips from the Olympic team following an injury to her ride Toytown, the choice of the fifth British Olympic Eventing Team member is due to be announced after the Barbury International Horse Trials.
Mary King has said: “I think Barbury will be a good early indicator of form in the run-up to The Olympics. One of the great things about going to Barbury is that you can always expect good ground which is really important for the horses’ preparation. It’s an event I so look forward to each year. It’s so brilliant for the spectators as well because they have an amazing view of virtually the whole cross country course from the middle of the venue.”
“With so many like the Irish and the Americans and the Australians and the New Zealanders all being based around here, I think all of them are going to go to Barbury so it will be like a mini-Olympics,” commented Yogi Breisner, British Equestrian Team Manager
“The entries have come in thicker and faster than ever this year and - with so many Olympic teams coming and so much for spectators and families to enjoy - we are looking forward to staging our best event yet,” ends Barbury International Chairman, Nigel Bunter.
