Champion show hunter horse dies suddenly

It was a sad day for show producer Louise Bell last week when her top working hunter horse, Man on Fire, suddenly collapsed and died on the way back from the Lincoln Show.

The horse, better known to his owner as 'her beloved Alfie', died only two weeks after winning Champion of the South and appeared as fit as ever. Writing on her blog Louise said that Man on Fire, had suddenly become ill at the show but vets couldn't pinpoint the exact problem.

An autopsy showed that a breach in the intestine had caused the trouble and all horse insurance policy holders would be well to check their policies for illness cover. Unfortunately for Louise, Man of Fire was the third horse she had lost in three years so she will have had her fair share of admin work claiming on her equine insurance policy, although that is probably the last of her worries.
