Check your horse for laminitis
The World Horse Welfare charity is urging horse owners to be vigilant on the deadly condition laminitis, as the unusual weather conditions could make the animals more prone to the disease.
October 2009 looks to be a strange month, with heavy rain falls and unusually warm temperatures. These will trigger the growth of grass, unusual for this time of year; this can trigger laminitis, an infection to the hooves which eventually leaves them crippled and in a lot of pain.
If the horses are walking around in wet fields full of grass the animal's owners need to be more aware of the upkeep and check them for any symptoms. If the horse looks to have the deadly condition veterinary help should be sought immediately.
Insure My Horse can provide you with horse insurance with the option of various veterinary cover, suited to your equine needs.
