Emergency services free trapped horse
A horse has escaped from what could have been a fatal accident on Tuesday 15 September, when the trailer it was travelling in tipped on to its side.
The owner of the vehicle was towing the horse box near Strang Crossroads, Braddon, in the Isle of Man, when it tipped on its side leaving the horse trapped inside the trailer. The owner of the horse, who was shaken up following the ordeal contacted police and fire-fighters to help rescue the horse so not to cause any more stress.
Emergency services arrived at the scene at 11.15am, police closed off the road and fire-fighters began cutting the roof off of the horse box to remove the animal with hand tools, avoiding the use of the noisy power tools that would normally be used in a road traffic accident, as not to panic the horse; after an hour of hard team work, the roof was lifted off the trailer freeing the animal.
A vet, who was also called to the scene, checked over the horse to establish if any injuries had been caused. It appeared that the animal had been unharmed in the accident and was able to walk home.
