Equine insurance: 'Horseboarding' takes off in UK

Equine insurance policyholders may be interested to hear about the latest in extreme sports in the UK – 'horseboarding'.

Developed by professional stuntman Daniel Fowler-Prime, the sport involves a skateboarder on an off-road device being connected to a mount and rider via a special harness.

As the horse takes off to a gallop, the boarder will reach speeds of up to 35mph, as they follow the animal in the way a water-skier would follow a motorboat.

Commenting on the pastime, Mr Fowler-Prime said: "This is a fast, adrenalin-fuelled equine team sport and it is growing rapidly. There's a raw surge of natural power you wouldn't get from any other sport ... A lot of skill is involved and the horse rider and boarder have to work together."

The boarder said that people were increasingly travelling from all over the country to take part in the activity.

Earlier this month, it was reported that French trainer Bartabas has brought his unique stage show, which features live horses, to the UK.
