Fancy the Palio?
Horse insurance customers in the UK were unlikely to be racing in Sienna last week at the 'Palio'.
Bareback horse riders take to the streets for the famous race in Siena twice a year. The Piazza del Campo in the centre of the Tuscan city is transformed into a horse racing circuit by putting a large amount of dirt down.
An estimated forty thousand spectators attend the spectacle and this year Sting and wife Trudy were among them according to the Daily Mirror. The iconic race also featured in the recent James Bond film 'Quantum of Solace'.
Riders from each of the city's 'contrare', or districts, compete in the race but the winner is the horse, not the jockey. Many riders are unseated during the race and it's not uncommon for horses to finish the three-lap race without a rider. It is unlikely that the riders will be good candidates for cheap horse riding insurance.
