Goverment plans new horse tax

The queen announced the plans for the new horse tax in her speech at the State Opening of Parliament yesterday. The statement from her majesty comes after the Government has announced a publication in the Animal Health Bill in January, this will suggest their plans to bring in a independent body to govern animal health in England.

The responsibilities of the new body would be to take control of animal health in the UK, which would bring a levy to raise funds for the running.

This bill has caused a stir amongst the horse industry causing them to start a petition, which they hope will result in the Government rethinking the horse tax.

Tim Morris the vetinary expert for the British Horseracing Authority said: "The proposals are based on inaccurate data and flawed assumptions and represent an increase in costs for the equine sector where a significant proportion already fund their leisure activities out of taxed income."
