Horse insurance: New Somerset equestrian centre planned

A new equestrian facility is set to open in Somerset in spring 2012, horse insurance policyholders have been told.

Horse and Hound reported that the centre, which will be located at Chewton Field Farm, near Ston Easton, will provide cross-country courses, of which there is a lack of in the area.

The Mendip Plains Equestrian Centre will also comprise a 50m by 70m area and stabling.

Duncan Green, owner of the current 40-acre site which will be the base of the centre, said: "The planners like our proposal because it will create employment and there is a need [for the venue], as there is a lack of cross-country courses around here."

An Area 14 Pony Club representative also welcomed the plans, saying that riders in the area are always in need of new facilities.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Princess Anne opened a new headquarters for the British Horse Society, located at Kenilworth in Warwickshire.
