Horse insurance: Pregnant animal rescued from river
Horse insurance policyholders have heard about an incident involving a pregnant animal, which became trapped in a north-east river.
The Shields Gazette reported that an emergency rescue team responded to a call at around 07:30 BST Sunday (April 24th) and attended to the animal in the River Don near Newton Garth Farm, Boldon Colliery.
A local farmer assisted the twenty fire fighters and specialist horse recovery personnel by lending his tractor to pull the horse out of the water, which was around 4ft deep.
"It seems as though the horse had gone to the river, which is more like a stream or a burn, for a drink, but was unable to get back out," watch manager John Reay said.
"This type of incident always needs a high level of care to ensure the horse does not become distressed."
After being lifted from the river, the horse was examined by a vet and returned to its owner, apparently unharmed.
Last week, the Daily Gazette reported that a mount was pulled from a ditch in Great Maplestead ny local emergency staff.
