Horse rescued after 3 hour mission
Emergency services where called to a country lane in Worcester after a horse found itself trapped in an overturned lorry following an accident. The horse New Series standing at 16 hands became trapped after its transport lorry crashed into a ditch on the A442. Firefighters where quick to react to the incident only to find they needed a specialist search and rescue team to help with the rescue.
Crews had to act as fact as they could as the lorry was filled with water, oil and diesel were slowly leaking out of the van. The rescue teams used booms and absorbent pads to help protect the horse from the harmful substance as well as minimising environmental effects.
Hereford and Worcester station manager Ian Jallands said: "With human passengers clear and the vehicle stabilised, vets partially sedated the horse whilst an exit trench was dug by the Urban Search and Rescue Team. Firefighters then used a winch to force open the back of the lorry and the horse was led - uninjured, to the safety of a nearby field."
Fortunately no one was seriously hurt in the incident, although one was taken to a nearby hospital for minor injuries, the horse has been given the all clear.
