Horse rescued from stream
A horse was rescued by Bedfordshire fire fighters and the RSPCA on Saturday 26 September after it became stuck in a stream not far from its field.
Passers-by had spotted the shivering horse in amongst the reeds of the stream and immediately called for help as the horse would not walk up the stream where she would have been able to escape without any issues; when the fire fighters attended the scene they found the wet shacking horse tired and scared but uninjured.
The RSPCA and fire service tried to move the horse but she was very cold and rigid so they decided to drag her along the bank which was about 150 meters away, it took around 90 minutes however she managed to break free and went back down the stream again. It was decided to winch her out using a strap under her belly.
Once lifted out of the water vets checked the white and black cob over and treated her for hypothermia and shock before she was released back in to the field with the other 15 horses.
