Horse sanctuary threatened with closure

The future of Alberts Horse Sanctuary in Scissett Yorkshire, home to 21 ponies and horses, is in jeopardy following a planning row with council officials.

Mary Hepworth, the owner of the sanctuary who also owns a charity shop in Scissett, has been informed by planning chiefs that she has until September 12 to dismantle 12 stables and a temporary shelter.

The stables are home to 21 older horses that require care, which have been taken in by the registered charity from owners who are no longer able to care for them.

Unless meetings are arranged with the council, who are currently ignoring Mary and her protestors, the stables will have to come down leaving the horses homeless - even though there is plenty of room on the site.

A recent decision for planning has been granted for the land adjoining the sanctuary for stables and a school, leaving confusion and upset for the sanctuaries owner.

Insure My Horse provides a variety of horse insurance products to suit the equine needs of horse owners.
