ILPH changes its name to World Horse Welfare
The International League for the Protection of Horses (ILPH) has changed its name to World Horse Welfare. The new name reflects the gradual shift from an organisation that was once primarily focused around the ‘protection’ of the individual horse to one that supports the ‘welfare’ of many.
The charity’s philosophy remains the same – working towards a world where the horse is used but never abused. They have created a ‘roadmap’ to guide their future development which is founded on the achievements of the ILPH over the past 81 years, such as the rehabilitation and re-homing of horses within the UK.
The objectives of World Horse Welfare will encompass a more complete approach and provide the opportunity to expand the role of the charity to tackle the root causes, as well as the effects, of horse cruelty. In order to succeed the charity recognises that it will need to double their income over the next five years – which can only be achieved by attracting new supporters. The new name is seen as an important part of the drive to raise the charity’s profile and bring it to the attention of a wider audience.
