One more hay fever sufferer

It has been widely publicised by scientists that this year has seen the greatest number of hay fever and general allergy sufferers to date with anti-histamine and hay fever products flying off the shelves this summer.

Hay and grass pollen is the hated nemesis of many people in the height of July and other famous faces like Prince William’s girlfriend, Kate Middleton suffering from an allergic reaction to horses, cannot even escape some of summers more prominent allergies.

However the latest revelation come in an unlikely form. Mouse, a brown mare, is herself allergic to hay, a considerable problem for equine animals as hay constitutes the main part of their diet.

Mouse’s owners, mother and daughter Jenny and Kim Parker, discovered the rare condition after Mouse went through a series of tests to discover the cause of the wheezing, sneezes and rashes that had blighted her life since a foal.

The young mare was set to train for a career in show jumping but has been unable to compete due to her restless nature triggered by her allergic reaction. She has now been re-introduced to a training program now that her condition is identified.

Kim Parker explained that Mouse has a nut diet to supply her protein and nutrients and that her stable, normally filled with straw and hay like other horses, is now filled with shredded paper sourced from local friends and businesses.

Insure My Horse sources extensive equine insurance by comparing multiple horse insurance providers to ensure a competitive premium for horse and pony owners.
