Pregnant horse falls into ditch

A horse bearing a foal has been rescued after falling into a ditch and trapping itself in Beaworthy, Devon. The horse was 9 months pregnant, which created a problem for the fire department who had to act quickly as the horse had already been trapped for 3 hours. It took two fire crews and a specialist team to free the horse from the ditch, a digger was used to remove part of the 8ft deep bank where ropes where then used to pull the horse to safety.

A vet then checked the horse over reporting that both the foal and its mother were fine and the birth would go ahead as planned next month.

Mr Jenkins, who owns the horse has praised all those involved in the rescue: "They were absolutely brilliant it was a real team effort".
