Primary school children introduced to horse riding
Children at a primary school in Swinton have been delighted with a new activity in the P.E Curricula, Horse Riding.
The horse riding lessons are being given to eight and nine years old at St Charles' RC Primary as part of their weekly PE Lesson, paid for by The Emile Faurie Foundation. The foundation, which provides riding session's for the school children at Ryders Farm Equestrian Centre, currently works with schools and riding centres using fundraising to introduce children to horse riding that wouldn't normally be given a chance.
One of the school teachers, who attends the riding lessons with the pupils, thinks that the horse riding is great for the children's self esteem, not only giving them the confidence in riding but also providing them with a change to the usual PE lesson; research and literature is also part of the riding lessons which cost the foundation £70 per session.
Ryders Farm Equestrian Centre in Kearsley, Bolton was first established in 1993 by Sarah Fitton, starting off with two ponies and a paddock. Since developing the centre by introducing over 52 horses and ponies, she has also won British Horse Society accolades for the work that she does with children at the riding school.
