RSPCA: Keep dogs away from Appleby Horse Fair
Horse insurance policyholders have been told that the RSPCA is urging dog owners to keep their animals away from the Appleby Horse Fair.
The event, which starts today (June 2nd) and runs until June 5th, is one of the largest attractions for the travelling community throughout Europe.
However, the animal welfare charity is urging horse insurance policyholders and other animal owners not to take small pets, as the sweltering heat can be too much for them to cope with if they are left in vehicles.
RSPCA chief inspector Rob Melloy told the News and Star: "We are very concerned that an increase in visitors will result in larger numbers of dogs and the problems that brings. This is a horse fair and for the sake of both the horses and dogs, we are encouraging people to leave their pets at home."
It is expected that around 40,000 people will visit the Cumbrian town for the event.
