Redwings Horsey Hospital Summer Open Weekend
Redwings Horse Sanctuary was established in 1984 and today has grown to be the largest horse charity in the UK, working to save horses, ponies, donkeys and mules whose future would otherwise be bleak. It merged with the Ada Cole Memorial Stables in Essex in October 2005 and has Visitor Centres in Norfolk, Essex and Warwickshire.
The Charity’s base, which is in Hapton, Norfolk is not open to the public. It includes a specialist veterinary team and equine hospital, welfare team, equine reception, rehabilitation and re-homing teams and administration. However, for two weekends a year it opens it’s gates so that it’s supporters can see the Horse Hospital, Parklands Re-homing Centre and meet some of the shyer or more elderly residents.
The Summer Open Weekend this year is being held on 12th and 13th July 2008 from 10am. The Estate is home to many of their very infirm and special care horses and is also the base for their re-homing team. Retired adoption pony Ben has been retired to Hapton and his paddock is close to our veterinary unit and special care facilities.
Hapton is also the home of their Garden of Remembrance dedicated to the memory of beloved pets. The location is peaceful and allows for quiet reflection amongst nature and of course, horses. Find out more about Redwings on their website www.redwings.org.uk
