Rider wins race on horse destined for knacker's yard
Equine insurance policyholders may be interested to hear that a jockey recently won an event at Flagg Races on a horse that had been scheduled to head to the knacker's yard.
Mark Caley from Buxton took the trophy in the High Peak Hunt's Members Race on mount Twist and Shout and revealed that the sturdy animal had been destined to meet its end prior to being picked up by him.
"The horse was going to be put down the next day when I first saw him," he told the Sheffield Star. "I went and bought him for £350. There was nothing wrong with him, though his legs were a bit heavy."
However, this trait may have in part helped Twist and Shout's performance on Tuesday (April 26th), as Caley said he "loves the hard ground".
Earlier this week, eventer Mark Todd achieved a momentous feat at Badminton Horse Trials, taking the trophy 31 years after first lifting the cup at the competition.
