Royal Lancashire Agricultural Show cancelled
The Royal Lancashire Agricultural Show has been cancelled for the second year running. The show, the oldest Agricultural Show in the country, was cancelled last year after the site in Ribchester was waterlogged after weeks of heavy rain.
This year’s show, due to be held from Friday 18th to Sunday 20th July was to be held on a new permanent site on the Duchy of Lancaster Estate. But once again heavy rain has brought the show to a halt.
Rain on Wednesday night caused areas of the showground to become a mudbath when vehicles arrived on Thursday to begin setting up. Animal classes went ahead on Friday, although the showground was closed to the public. However, further rain meant that the show organisers had to take the difficult decision to cancel the show altogether.
The Royal Lancashire Agricultural Show website (www.rlas.co.uk) carries the message that the show is cancelled ‘because of the heavy rain and ground conditions over the last few days’.
