Seized Dudley animals 'will be re-homed', equine insurance customers told
Four stray horses that were seized from a Dudley estate will be re-homed after their owners failed to come forward, equine insurance policyholders have learned.
The Birmingham Mail reported that the animals were taken by police after being found on a road in Fulbrook Road, Russells Hall, on April 18th.
After being secured by officers, the mounts were found to require medical help as a result of poor health and possible neglect.
The newspaper revealed that the animals are the first to have been seized following an agreement between West Midlands Police and Dudley Council, which allows for horses to be taken into the authority's possession if they wander onto public roads, posing a danger to local residents.
Sgt Cliff Tomkinson told the newspaper: "The first seizures will soon be re-homed ... They should see out the remainder of their life in a suitable environment such as a horse sanctuary or with a responsible horse owner."
Last month, Roly Owers from World Horse Welfare said that some people take on animals without considering the ongoing cost and responsibility of caring for mounts.
