Take care when passing Horses
The recent number of stories where an innocent horse rider has been riding on the side of the road and has been hit by a passing vehicle has seen a recent increase. Currently more and more drivers are racing down country lanes ignorant to anything that may be round the next corner, there can often be nothing but on the rare occasion there may be team of horses riding just around the bend.
Recent stories have seen riders from the age of 10 up to 50 being thrown from their horse after a reckless or ignorant driver has flown down a country lane only to find themselves travelling too fast to avoid the danger. Its not only the injuries sustained by the riders that are damaging but it is the pain of loosing a horse, as in most cases the horse dies or has to be put down, as a result of the seriousness of the injuries sustained.
It can be a hassle having to slow down when a horse is on the road-side especially down country lanes as it can be a while before there is a clear overtaking opportunity. Perhaps worse is having a horse smash through your windscreen after the impatience of not wanting to wait a few moments to pass. Riders will always find the time to acknowledge your effort in passing them slowly so it is only fair that we do the same for them in slowing down and not causing any rash actions that could upset the animals.
