The last diving horse?

Those with an interest in horse care and equine insurance will be intrigued to hear that a horse has spent over ten years diving into a pool of water at an amusement park in up-state New York.

The Magic Forest is quick to point out that there's no coercion in the stunt and that thirteen-year-old Lightning does not have to make the jump if he doesn't want to. But the covered ramp leading to the pool does not appear to give the horse much option. After leaping nine feet into the fourteen feet deep pool he swims to the other side to claim his reward, a bucket of oats.

With a twice daily run, the show is claimed to be the longest-running horse diving act and possibly the last one running. This is not surprising in today's more enlightened world. Certainly it's unlikely that Lightning will be top of the list for a cheap horse insurance quote.
