The Fun Ride Season 2008 is nearly here

Fun Rides have become increasingly popular with horse riders looking for an enjoyable, non-competitive equestrian activity that is open to all. There are a growing number of rides organised each year across the UK, with lots raising funds for charity.

Fun Rides range in length from 3 miles to 10 miles plus with some offering the added bonus of riding through parkland not usually open to horse-riders. Many of the rides are suitable for all abilities, often with a shorter route for young children or novice riders.

Sponsored Horse Rides raise large amounts of money for charity and some have themselves become major annual events. Two long established sponsored rides are the Frensham Cross Country Sponsored Ride in Surrey and the Hatfield Rotary Club Sponsored Ride in Hertfordshire.

The Frensham Sponsored Ride raised over £25,000 in 2007 with more than 750 riders taking part. It will take place on Sunday 20th April 2008 starting from Stockbridge Farm, Tilford, Surrey with a route over Frensham Common. Further details and the schedule can be found on the Riding Diary Website www.ridingdiary.co.uk .

The Hatfield Rotary Club Sponsored Charity Horse Ride was due to take place in October 2007, but had to be postponed because of the Foot and Mouth Outbreak. It has been re-scheduled for Sunday 16th March 2008 and offers the opportunity to ride through Hatfield Park. More details can be found on their website www.digforfire.co.uk/horseride .
