Thieves steal from horse sanctuary
Roleystone Sanctuary near Wrose, Shipley, has been host to an unethical event that took place this week. Around £14,000 worth of equipment has been stolen from the sanctuary after thieves unhinged a gate and used a vehicle in order to gain access to the track room where the equipment was kept.
Diane French who runs the sanctuary is shaken by the incident and cannot believe that someone would steal from a shelter. "All the tack was donated to the sanctuary and we certainly won't be able to replace it. We need the tack to train horses and to exercise them. Some of the horses need regular exercise for medical reasons."
The sanctuary has had several attempted break-ins over the years but none of which have been successful until now. The refuge that is home to more than just 35 horses it is also home to a dog, two rabbits, seven cats as well as several other variteties of farm animals. Fortunately none of the animals where harmed as a result of the robbery, although the horses are currently suffering from a very contagious respiratory infection meaning that not only have fundraisers been halted but this sort of incident could have had dramatic affects to their health.
