World Horse Welfare charity move closer to their goal

The World Horse Welfare charity have moved one step closer to their goal of achieving a written declaration, reviewing the transport of horses to slaughter houses.

There are currently around 100,000 horses transported every year, where they are miss-treated and kept in horrific conditions. The horses are subject to days in the back of transport vehicles where they are given little or no time to rest and are deprived of water and food. This leaves the horses exhausted, dehydrated and close to death.

The World Horse Welfare have spend years fighting to have a declaration approved, which would move them closer to their target of having a proposal to the amendment of current legislation. A large number of MEP's have already expressed their involvement with 27 European Union countries already giving their support.

A director from the World Horse Welfare, Jo White said: "This milestone has been achieved following tremendous support in all 27 EU countries. This important accomplishment will be presented to the European Commission, which is responsible for drafting amended legislation impacting upon these horses. This is an astonishing feat. Only four other animal welfare written declarations have received this much support since July 2005 and none of them involved horse welfare."

Anyone looking to get involved can log onto the World Horse Welfare website and can sign up to help take action against this cruelty.
