Horse rider ability

Choosing the type of horse that you want is dependent on the activities that you plan to be doing most with it, for example taking on a horse that is high spirited would not be suitable if your plans are to go hacking once a week.

Knowing your own riding level will help in choosing a horse to suit your standard and riding wants and needs, as taking a horse that is beyond your abilities will eventually erode your confidence and extinguish the joy of riding. Taking riding lessons will help to build confidence and ability; also you may be able to get advice from your teacher as to the best type of horse for your physique, riding style/abilities and ambitions.
