Identify your horse with a horse passport
Since the Horse Passport Act 2003 all equines have had to be issued with their own passport. Although they are not to be considered as an enduring form of identification they are designed to help reduce horse thefts. So as not to be breaking the law an owner must have a valid passport for their horse to do any of the following.
Reasons to use a horse passport:
- Exporting it
- Use in competition
- Present for slaughter for human consumption
- Selling it
- Use for breeding
